How To Enable Outlook Web Access Based On AD Security Group Membership

Having answered a question like this in one of the Technet Exchange forums this morning, I was amazed to see how many incorrect suggestions there are out there for this procedure.

If you have an AD group (consisting of, naturally, mailbox users, since we’re talking about OWA), and you want to enable OWA access for all of the members, try creating this little PowerShell script in Notepad.

$members = Get-ADGroupMember "OWA Users"
foreach($member in $members){
Set-CASMailbox $member.name -owaenabled $true
}

Save it to, say, the root of your C: drive (give it a name like OWAEnable.ps1), open a PS window, navigate to the root of the C: drive, and run the script by typing .\OWAEnable.ps1 .
